I am a human centered designer.

I design interactions and experiences. By applying empathetic, people-focussed, participatory design and working with a diverse group of people, I attempt to solve complex problems with fuzzy goals. While most proficient in designing digital solutions, I also create with paper, processes, services, physical products, physical spaces and businesses. Currently at Michigan Medicine, the University of Michigan's Health System in Ann Arbor.

read About

My name is Aalap Doshi and I am a designer. I live in the beautiful university town of Ann Arbor, MI with an even more beautiful wife Komal Anand Doshi who is an urban designer.

I do not believe in limiting myself to a medium of design. I believe that most problems in nature require creative, multi-dimensional and collaborative thinking. I am always looking to apply design thinking to solve such complex problems and inspire delight.

I am interested not only in designing a good solution but defining the right problem in the first place.

What I do all day

I work atMichigan Institute for Clinical and Health Research (MICHR) which is a part of the University of Michigan Health System.

MICHR is one of the 60 institutions that have been awarded the Clinical & Translational Science Awards to improve human health by streamlining science, transforming training environments and improving the conduct, quality and dissemination of clinical and translational research.

We are a group of 120+ individuals that work to help research teams at the University of Michigan to conduct their research.

I wear many hats

As the lone designer at MICHR, I wear many hats. The one that I enjoy the most though is of interaction design. I also play the roles of a user experience designer, user researcher, human centered designer, creative problem solver, business analyst, graphic designer, information architect, thinker and dreamer and sometimes also print designer, project manager and developer.

I have come to realize that limiting myself to a medium of design sometimes deters me from achieving my goal and I have no problems in doing whatever it takes to see my vision through. In this regard, my hero is the greatLeonardo_da_Vinci who was the most versatile designer and artist to have ever lived.

My heroes

I am highly inspired by the simplicity, purity and honesty in the product designs of Dieter Rams and the organic, soulful, sustainable beauty that comes out of the designs of architectTadao Ando andFrank Lloyd Wright. I also admire Steve Jobs andJohnathan Ive for their all round eco-systems design and passion. I also admire the great designer and artist Leonardo_da_Vinci for his curiosity.

Some of the companies and organizations that I always look upto areIDEO,Frog design,Cooper design, HUGE Inc,Apple Inc,Stanford Design School andMayo Clinic Center for Innovation.
